		<description>Great post! And even though I&#039;m still floored that some people don&#039;t tip, I agree with you.  Local restaurant 2 weeks ago, an hour to get food, waitress off in la la land -- still had to pay a tip because there were more than 12 of us!!</description>

I am as perplexed as you on why our country&#039;s customs are so different from those of other progressive nations.  However please keep in mind that the waiters and waitresses are just as forced as you are in the tipping expectation.  Waiters have a different minimum wage, last year it was $2.10 per hour.  This is not just the minimum, it is the standard, usually only fine dining resturants pay more.  I certainly understand tipping more for exceptional service, but because of the very low wage they earn 15% is a minimum requirement, especially when dining at lunch, as the total of your meal is usually less.  </description>
