This is just odd, but interesting

According to this story over at Engadget, Google is looking to start a nation wide, ad supported Wifi service. While this is a fascinating, and exciting, idea, I just can’t see how it would ever be a reality.

A)Wifi equipment doesn’t have that large of a range. You would have to have such a massive amount of gear it is mind boggling.

B)By the time they would get done getting the project rolled out, the next standard of Wifi would probably be out. We have already had A, B (11 mbps) and G (54 mbps), N (rumored to be 100 mbps) is due in the not-so-distant future.

C)Honestly, how many people click on Google Adwords that would make this cost effective?

I think this is a wonderful idea, but I just don’t see how it could ever effectively be rolled out. Now, maybe in a few select cities….
