Stay Out Of My Living Room!

Written by Sean P Aune  |  under TV

The American Family Association is making it their job to attack the NBC series The Book Of Daniel before it has even aired, all they know is what’s been in the press releases. Daniel Webster (nice joke) is an Episcopal priest addicted to pain killers, he has a gay son, an alcoholic wife, a daughter dealing drugs and his sister-in-law is having an affair with his female secretary. It seems the AFA takes exception with this. How, I have no clue as they did not see the episode early.

Again, this is like the South Park incident I wrote about the other day. Are these people incapable of picking up a remote and changing the channel? Why do they, essentially, get to change the channel for me? There are lots of shows I object to, but why should I force my views on everyone else? For instance, I hate the devil incarnate known as Rachael Ray. You know what I do about it? I turn the channel. I don’t feel the need to write in to the Food Network demanding she be removed from the air because I know this is my personal problem. Just because I don’t like her doesn’t mean other people should be denied the right to watch her. It’s called freedom of choice and is one of the main things this country is based on.

If you don’t like something, turn it off. If you don’t like the idea it’s even on the air, don’t support the sponsers. But stay out of my decesion making process. I don’t try to change your television, don’t try changing mine. Why is this so difficult for people to comperhend? And the sad thing is, with stations giving in, it just gives them (the complainers) that much more firepower for the next time. With each victory it does nothing but stregthen the whiners of this world.

Eight NBC affiliates originally gave in, and pulled the show, but three of them later decided to go in and air the show. The affiliates are:

KBTV in Beaumont, Texas

WGBC in Meridian, Miss

WTWO-TV in Terre Haute, Ind.

KARK-TV in Little Rock, Ark.

KSNK-TV in Oberlin, Kan

KNSW-TV in Wichita, Kan.
(decided to air, but may change after premiere)

KSNG-TV in Garden City, Kan.
(decided to air, but may change after premiere)

KSNC-TV in Great Bend, Kan.
(decided to air, but may change after premiere)
