Music Snob Survey

Stolen from my friend Eva, go give her much love.

FAVORITE BAND, ALL TIME: GAH! I have to name just one?!? Wow..well…I will go with Billy Joel even though he is not a band.

BEST MOVIE SOUNDTRACK: The Crow

BEST CONCERT YOU’VE EVER SEEN: The Brian Setzer Orchestra

YOUR DREAM CONCERT: Billy Joel in the early days

ARTIST YOU LOVE, THAT WOULD IMPRESS SOMEONE OLDER THAN YOU: Mozart…amazing passion

THE MOST UNDERRATED BAND, EVER: Hmmm…I don’t know if I could pick “ever”, but I would say of the current folks out there, I think Shakira’s body is over-shadowing an amazing voice and talent.

THE MOST OVERRATED: Beyonce, Mariah Carey, Dave Matthews Band, Linday Lohan, Hillary Duff…I could go on for hours.

MOST IMPROVED SINCE THEY STARTED: I’m going to be laughed at for this, and it probably comes from having listened to all 3 albums in a row yesterday, but I am going to say Pink. She lost her hip-hop wanna-be status and seems to have found an actually passionate voice.

ONLY A SHELL OF WHAT THEY ONCE WERE: (apologies to Eva since she picked them for Most Improved) I have to say U2. How is it their music got more fluffy while Bono got more political in the rest of his life? To me, their peak was around the time of “Rattle and Hum “. Give me the “Sunday, Bloody Sunday” U2.

WHOSE MUSIC DESCRIBES YOUR LIFE: Anything angry as of late. I am closely associated with Ska, so people expect me to be all about happy music, but I am listening to a lot of angry, disenchanted music as of late. Gee…with the state of affairs in this country, is that really that shocking?

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF:

– GREEN DAY: I know I shouldn’t like them as much as I do, but damn it, the first three songs of “American Idiot” get played far too much for me to deny it.

– MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE: They’re alright, but seem a bit too “packaged” to me. Like “Oh look at us, we’re dark and brooding!”

– BRIGHT EYES: Not familiar with them

– RAP: It varies. Enimem and Kanye West are ok.

BEST 3 ALBUMS OF 2005:
1. Madonna, “Confessions On A Dance Floor”…damn it’s catchiness
2. Shakira, “Oral Fixation Vol. 2”
3. Sean Paul, “The Trinity”

YOU USED TO HATE THEM BUT NOW YOU LOVE THEM: Nirvana. I think I was just burned out on them being shoved down my throat in the early 90’s.

IS PUNK DEAD? – Punk is a state of mind, an attitude and a concept. It has always existed and always will in some form. Mozart was a “punk”…Jerry Lee Lewis was a punk…the internet is punk.

RAMONES OR THE CLASH: That’s like making me choose which of my children to save from a burning house!!!!! GAH! I’m going to have to say The Ramones, but ONLY because I can remember hearing them first. I was 8 years old and it was one of the first times I remember my ears perking up and going “What in the world…?” It was 1979, I had no interest in disco and I heard “Rock N’ Roll High School”…It was years before I got truly in to music, but I can still remember thinking “wow!”

JOHNNY CASH PLAYED COUNTRY MUSIC, BUT WE CALL HIM “ROCK AND ROLL”. SOMEONE ELSE FROM ANOTHER GENRE THAT IS ALL ROCK: (NOTE: IF YOU CAN’T ANSWER THIS, PLEASE FIND YOUR WAY OUT OF THE LOCAL HOT TOPIC AND GO DISCOVER SOMETHING NEW) : Jerry Lee Lewis crossed lots of genres and is even considered an early version of punk.

ONE CHANCE….PIMP AN ARTIST. WHO IS SOMEONE THAT WE ALL SHOULD BE LISTENING TO: Floggin Molly for pure energy

LASTLY, ENTER YOUR MUSIC SNOB RANT HERE:?

Do not accept the force fed crap of the record companies. Albums are becoming 1 to 2 good songs and the rest filler-fluff. Vote with your wallets. Buy your music piece-meal on the internet, buy only the tracks you like and prove to the record companies that “music pirates” aren’t their enemies, they are on their worst enemies with a total lack of regard to actually producing quality any more.
