Desmond Dekker

Written by Sean P Aune  |  under Music

This will mean nothing to 99.9% of the world, but Desmond Dekker passed away yesterday. Born Desmond Adolphus Dacres in Kingston, Jamica on July 16th, 1941, Desmond would go on to be one of the biggest driving forces in Ska music. To the Ska community, this is the equivilant of losing someone like Elvis. Everyone in the Ska scene knows of Desmond, an especially his song, “The Israelites”. (video below)

Like I said, I doubt this matters to anyone who reads my blog, but it’s a big deal to me. Desmond was so influential, his presence will be greatly missed.
