I liked Seinfeld generally but once I watched it in Japanese and while the translation was accurate it was not funny at all. And after that when I watched it in English I couldn't understand what was funny anymore.

Pyton I adore, Seinfeld...eh. It's not to say I wouldn't chuckle once in awhile at it, and I even found some episode downright hysterical (Kenny Roger's Roster pops to mind). I think what bothered me the most was I didn't LIKE these characters. They were self-centered and nasty, and Seinfeld said as much in the final episode...which most people didn't like *laugh*

I think people like Seinfeld for the same reasons why they like Monty Python. It's not really funny in a conventional way. It's more of a thing you play along with and find amusing than a joke and a punchline things. That's not to say it's subtle (Python wasn't either) but you either find it funny or you don't.
