And DRM takes another hit!

Amazon Sheds DRM

Amazon has announced they will be launching a new online music store this year, and the kicker is… NO DRM!

At this time, Amazon is saying they have signed 12,000 record labels (remember, record labels sometimes release as few as one album) to this new deal. All music will be sold in the MP3 format, and DRM free. No mention of pricing as of yet.

This is a fantastic scenario for the consumer, and I am beyond excited at what it foretells for the future of online music sales. The RIAA best be ready for it… a change is in the air, and it favors, for once, the consumer.
