Tonight they showed some people taste the cake they made for the Sound Garden music store. They brought the cake to a soccer field or something and a few people took a bite on screen. Of course how accurate can a reaction be when you're being filmed and don't want to look like a jerk if it isn't very good? haha

I read on another website that they start at $500. If they cost that much I'd be mad if most of mine ended up being made of foam.

OK I see your point and raise you one. What they should do film a tasting session and show the cakes up close and very personal. The reactions could be done like a montage thing. Pretty cool!

Oh totally, and I would NOT want to see it in every episode, just once would be enough I think.

I know what you're saying, but they only have ½ hour and not even that when you consider the advertising. Do you think there'd be a lot of interest in showing a tasting session on the show? I'm sure even those get filmed but someone edits them out. My guess? Boring.

Okay, now you're just making me hungry *laugh*

This would appear it's more a fault of the show, which I suspected, that they focus on only one aspect of his business: The decorating. The show makes it appear as if the taste is totally secondary, which is odd for a network dedicated to food.

He did a carrot cake with buttercream which had a kick of grand marnier. TO DIE FOR! He has a chocolate chip pumpkin that is outstanding too. Melts in your mouth. I could go on...

THANK YOU! I really appreciate you taking the time to respond. I mean, they look good on screen, but just once you want to see someone take a bite, you know?

I figured they were good, but I just wanted to hear someone who had tried one actually say it!

I can tell you first hand that Duff's cakes are amazing. Have you been to his website to see the flavors he offers? I haven't tasted all of them, but I've been to a tasting (he makes little mini-cakes that he cuts into four pieces and then has the clients taste all the flavors and was blown away. They are moist and burst with intense flavor and fresh buttercream.

Duff is a chef, a baker and an artist. Probably in that order.

In fact, on one of the episodes of Ace of Cakes, his baker mixes up one of the samples and Duff gets upset (just a little) because he doesn't want to look stupid in front of his clients.
