When Luis covered the iPhone's initial release, I believe I said in comments that Apple would release the phone at a highly inflated price so the fanbois and status conscious would lap it up then they'd reduce the price so those more interested in the item's capabilities would buy it. I'm a prognosticator. ;-)

If those who paid a ridiculous price for the iPhone get angry about this, they should take some comfort in knowing they got to flash their phone and show off for awhile before the plebs could afford to get their hands on them. Also, if Apple loyalists haven't figured out by now that their unconditional love and uncontrollable lust for products is going to be abused, then they're seriously not paying attention and deserve lighter wallets.
