Boomerang

BoomerangThere is no denying it, I’m still a big kid at heart.  I am sure some of you had figured this out by now.

With that confession out of the way, I have to say I love Boomerang.

This is an off-shoot of Cartoon Network that showed up a couple of years ago and plays classic cartoons, non-stop, 7 days a week.  What commercials there are only for themselves, and pretty limited.  Most of the time while I’m working/writing/blogging, I like some background noise, and I love it when Boomerang does what they call “Boomer Action”.  It’s the perfect background noise for me.

There is nothing like an all day marathon of shows like The Herculoids, Thundarr The Barbarian, Super Friends, Space Ghost, and so on.  Sure it’s all silly, thread-bare plotting, stories, but it’s the perfect thing when you don’t really want to pay attention to what’s going on.

Sure they don’t have the art or depth of story of Anime, but they do transport me back to my childhood in a snap.  And if it wasn’t for shows like these, I probably wouldn’t be the “toy expert” some people claim I am.  I guess I could be an ass and label this as “freshening up my research”.

An Era Is About To End

  • Me, I’m a classic Looney Tunes cartoon lover. Road Runner, Daffy Duck, Bugs Bunny… but not the new crap. The new crap sucks big-time. The old ones didn’t have plots as much as they had endless gags, pratfalls, and knowing looks. No stories, no overt messages, just mindless fun and craziness. Like a precursor to the “Airplane!” movies, but G-rated. As Michael Garabaldi said, “my second-favorite thing in the universe.”
