Sure, of course.

But let me just make a criticism here and say that if your true intent was to appreciate film for it's artistic qualities, I doubt you would be watching or be interested in this kind of film in the first place.

When I was in film school, me and all my friends use to pick apart and complain about all the hollywood films for being this and that but since it was just too easy to rip apart these films all we were doing was pretending to be intellectually superior to everyone else who enjoyed such movies. If we really wanted to appreciate the "good" films, we wouldn't have been watching any of that schlock in the first place. It's like going to Mcdonalds and complaining that it isn't good cuisine.

I believe also it's important for Hollywood to "raise its bar" but all I am saying is it's not worth getting worked up about it. Especially for a film that hasn't even come out yet and that you've already somewhat "prejudged." We already know you won't like this film. ;-)

If you want to see good cinema with good writing and prove your film appreciation skills, why don't you just avoid the stuff from hollywood altogether and watch some good indie or foreign films instead?

Roy - Because movies are a form of art. Do you look at painting and go "Well, the artist forgot to give the lady a left eyebrow, but, it's only a painting."? Sure, movies can be just for fun, and I even enjoy some of the "just for fun" ones, but as someone who dabbles in writing, I get annoyed by stories that do things just to do things and then expect the audience to ignore what they've done.

Like I told you my problem with traitor in The Matrix. If they had not established their own rules very clearly in the earlier portion of the film, I would have ignored it. However, they went to great lengths to explain how entering and exiting the Matrix worked... and then decided to ignore those very "rules" later in the film because it was inconvenient to them. That's not only sloppy film making, it's insulting to the audience. "Oh they won't remember, just do what you need to do to make this portion of the story work."

As long as you keep accepting mediocre fare from Hollywood, the more they think they'll be able to get away with it.
