I find this ridiculous. I am a waxologist/waxing tech whatever you want to call it. Licensed in New York State and fully insured.
I offer the brazilian service to my clients if they wish it. Those that I've waxed never had an infection of any kind or any other injury.
I can think of a few things that could cause their infections:
After the service, I inform my clients of the importance of not tanning, hot tubs, swimming pools, sun and no body contact, etc. for at least 24 hours 48 would be optimal.

These ladies may not have heeded the advice and either gone tanning (sweating) or hot tub etc which increased the risk of the infection.

I never double dip. I always use a new spatula with fresh application of wax.

We all have fungus spores on our body, its a given and something else may have caused these iinfections.

Or they never really occured at all, due to tough economic times, they had remorse and have invented this to get money from the state or salon.

Yipe.. the Brazilian wax job on the girl in your link looks like footage from 'Dr. G., Medical Examiner'! While I'm not trying to dog anyone, I do believe that some girls just need to keep a little bit of fuzz. I think the professionals that provide this particular "service" should be the experts in that circumstance, and the professional in the case of that pic didn't do his/her job. It reminds me of a scene in "Alien", and I know you remember the scene I'm talking about. Don't get me wrong, I keep my junk pleasantly trimmed and do not agree that a state should ever have the right to decide whether a woman (or man, for that matter) can have their happy place professionally waxed. However, I do believe that every wax client should be asked the question, "Do you want your partner to be greeted by what looks like a fuzzy rosebud for them to unfold, or rather be greeted by an in-your-face head of red cabbage?" Seriously... I had my husband and my business partner both look at just the pic of the Brazilian wax and they literally cringed at first, then relaxed when they saw the alternatives. What does that say? I think it says that, legal or not, a woman needs to know her own anatomy before going with a Brazilian wax. Sometimes "going Braz" isn't the right thing for her or her hoo-haa!
