With UPS and other services like Fed Ex eating up all of the profitable business and email eating up the need for ordinary messages, it's no wonder that the postal system is having trouble. But this is also symbolic of what happens when private industry takes over a formerly--and successfully--socialized business: the more expensive, business-related stuff is maintained and remains in service while the service to regular people is curtailed and made less complete and less reliable.
