First Thoughts On The iPad
Last week I said I would be doing something this week that would make heads explode. Well, the fact that I am typing this on an iPad would be what will make at least a few heads explode I’m sure.
I honestly thought I would not get an iPad this year, I just wasn’t happy with some of the features that are missing, and I figured I would get one when the second generation iPad comes out in a year or so. Well, the situation arose where one of my bosses at TechnoBuffalo decided that he would rather have a 3G version, so he was going to have a spare Wi-Fi version.
Who am I to say no to deal?
So, yes, I have a 32 GB Wi-Fi iPad now, and though it has been over a month since it released, I thought I’d go ahead and go over just a few things quickly.
Weight – This sucker is HEAVY! It feels like it weighs a ton, but that’s what you get with two enormous batteries in it.
Battery Life – I’ve only had it a day, but it looks to be pretty healthy. Although I will say charging seems to take forever.
Speed – This thing is way fast. You touch an icon and BOOM, your app is open.
Screen – Pretty bright, no issues thus far, but I haven’t used it for an extended period yet.
Keyboard – The first two paragraphs of this post were typed on it, I only stopped because I was sitting awkwardly, which says more about the weird ways I sit than the iPad. In landscape mode, though, the keyboard is quite generous.
Video Quality – Watched a few minutes of a video, very, very clear. Watched a few minutes of a streaming video from Netflix … blown away by the clarity.
I’m sure I’ll have some more thoughts in a few days, but first impressions … I like it. As for head explosions … that would be occasional Scattercast guest Mark “Rizzn” Hopkins who I will predict will give me grief about buying this in 3 … 2 … 1 …
