The Wasteland Of Ideas

Written by  |  under Blogging, Work, Writing

writingYes folks … I think I am officially blogging too much.

As you see each Sunday, I post a list of my posts for the past seven days, and it has been averaging over 50 posts a week for some time now.  While the number isn’t a problem, it’s coming up with the ideas that has become the issue.

Each day I get through all of my paid work, and then I get to my own small network of blogs, and if there is time left over I start working ahead where I can.  It’s a pretty efficient system … until a monkey wrench gets thrown into it all.  I fear those e-mails that say, “Hey, can you cover …” As much as I want to say “no”, I always end up covering it because I refuse to say that to paid work.  So, I end up piling on some extra work, and at the end of the day I come to still having this blog to do.

Having done this blog every day for over five years now, I have no intention of stopping, but coming up with stories some days has become a double edged sword.  Twice in the past week I’ve started writing a post on here, and half way through I go, “You know … this would fit on such-and-such blog … why don’t I move this idea over there and get paid for it instead?”  So at the last minute I find myself again without an idea and scrambling (this article making more sense as to why it exists now?) for another concept, and I find myself pressing up against midnight and missing a day of my record.

While I certainly don’t see myself cutting back on the paid work, and I don’t want to stop writing here, I’ve just got to come up with some ideas for other types of articles that won’t make me go, “Why isn’t this on TechnoBuffalo …”, and I won’t find myself scrambling at the end of the day like I’ve been doing.

Now … to go work on posts for this coming Saturday … on other blogs.
