The Peculiar Case Of Patricia Dye
Meet Patricia Dye, also known as Matt Abrams and Matthew Thomas Abrams.
Yes, you read that correctly. She was also known by male names because this 31-year-old woman posed as a 14-year-old boy on sites such as MySpace and Facebook so that she could talk with girls, two of whom she ended up dating.
On July 7th she was charged with corruption of a minor and unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. Apparently Ms. Dye has been “dating” a 16-year-old girl who was unaware of her true gender for some time, and had engaged in sexual conduct with her. Warren County prosecutor’s spokesman Matt Nolan told WLWT news, “It does seem odd that a teenage girl would think that this was a young teenage male, but her physical characteristics … are closer to looking like a 14-year-old male than a 30-year-old woman.” Mr. Nolan went on to say, “It’s not that crazy that you would see her and think that’s a young male.”
It is not stated how Ms. Dye was finally found out, but suspicion would be that it came to light after the girl ran away from home for three days to live with Ms. Dye-come-Matt Abrams, in a hotel room she shared with her parents. Her parents say they warned her to not get close to the girl, but that was obviously not successful. Dorothy Dye, Patricia’s mother, stated that this was something her daughter had done since grade school. Standing only 4’11″ and weighing 120 lbs made it easy for her to get away with it.
With the news of this incident, another family came forward on July 14th to say that Ms. Dye had also been dating their daughter since May 2009. The step-father of the unnamed 16-year-old girl says his step-daughter went into hysterics when the news broke, and she assures everyone that the relationship with “Matt” had never moved beyond kissing.
The state of Ohio, where the crimes took place, are running into a bit of an issue however in that they can only charge Ms. Dye with misdemeanors as their are no laws on the book about female sex crimes. Since both girls were over the age of 16 at the time the crimes took place, that put them over the age of consent in the state, and although they thought they were having a relationship with a male, and it turned out to be a female, that isn’t a crime. Ms. Dye may face as little as nine months in county jail for her crimes.
Apparently in this day and age you are going to have to have laws for every possible permeation of orientation and gender when it comes to sex crimes.

Uhh, how about let the buyer beware. If they were of the age of consent, of course it's nothing more than a misdemeanor…probably shouldn't even be that! An embarrassment for the girls, maybe (or maybe not)… but a crime?
