Star Wars Coming At You In 3D
I have come to the conclusion that George Lucas just doesn’t care about the fans, and he probably never really has.
It’s been all over the news the past few days that George Lucas is going to redo all six Star Wars films in 3D, starting with the Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace in 2012. There will be one film released per year after that, culminating in 2017, the 40th anniversary of the release of the first film.
Why?
Fans have been very vocal about their displeasure with how these films have been treated ever since the Special Editions came out in the 1990s, and how we all long for the original theatrical cuts. Instead Lucas just continues to bastardize them, taking them further and further away from the films we originally loved.
There is also the issue that post-3D work is pretty widely known to be lousy. Yes, Lucas will throw a ton of money at this project to be sure, and they will probably look slightly better than other post-3D works, but, still … there is no need for this.
My gut feeling is we’ll see some new deleted scenes to get people into the seats, and people will end up flocking to them. This will of course be followed by yet another DVD and/or Blu-ray release of them.
You know what? I’m done. I’ve got the movies I kinda want, and I don’t simply need any more of this. I’m tired of supporting someone who is clearly more about the money than pleasing the fans. You want to make more money, Lucas? Go for it, they belong to you, but as a life long fan of these films, you can just simply count me out.

Amen, brother.
After Revenge of the Sith, I thought, well, at least that's over.
After Lord of the Rings was finished, I was finally able to look at the original Star Wars trilogy and the whole Star Wars thing more dispassionately–because they were no longer the standard for fantasy films. And what I discovered that
1) I lost interest about the time they flew away from Tatooine after rescuing Han in Return of the Jedi,
2) I really did think that Cloud City was prettier in the special edition, but the rest of the special edition stuff wasn't worthwhile. (The end of Jedi is definitely better in the special edition, but I don't care about Jedi after they rescue Han, remember?)
3) I valued Splinter of the Mind's Eye and the Marvel comics that came out between the first and second films more highly than anything that happened after they rescued Han on Tatooine, and WAY more highly than the prequels or any of the Expanded Universe junk.
4) I am totally okay with all of the above.
So that's Star Wars for me, and it's all I need.

I have to agree with you, Jack. I'm just done. Lucas has gotten enough money out of me, and I'm tired of being a wallet for him. I gave up on the Expanded Universe years ago, and I'm so glad I did, it was just all trash. I have the movies I care about, and that's all I need.
What? You don't love the Ewoks?!? Yub nub?

I LOVE Ewoks! I mean, most furry humanoids smell AWFUL when you burn them, but light up an Ewok and it's like, WHUMF, rich mocha. And barbecue? Ewoks are AWESOME barbecue.

Note to Lucas: to stay current, some filmmakers will go to the extreme length of making new movies. Radical, I know.
