Did Disney+ crack the pricing code? buff.ly/2GwAvBA
I am shocked by this, but I have to say that the first trailer for G.I. Joe: Retaliation didn’t actually make me cringe … until the very end.
When the fire G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra footage came out, I can’t even begin to describe how disappointed I was with it having been a fan of the toy line since the 1983 relaunch of the toy line. Everything was overdone, the inclusion of bad jokes made me cringe and those “accelerator suits” were enough to make me want to beat someone over the skull with a bat. When I heard that the second film was going forward I figured we were just in for more of the same, but it seems that someone, somewhere got the memo of what fans might be more inclined to wanting to see …
A G.I. Joe movie.
While a trailer is never anything to judge an entire film on, this looks world more promising than the first film, although it obviously continues that storyline. (Zartan is obviously still disguised as the president) But from this little bit of footage we see the iconic Cobra logo, we see what appears to be Cobra Commander the way he’s supposed to be and, most important of all, we see Snake-Eyes actually acting like a ninja.
Of course, then they have to go and make the completely odd decision to include Bruce Willis in the film and have him be … well … Bruce Willis in the closing shot of the clip. Hopefully he isn’t in the film much and we can just concentrate on everything else we saw, because the 12-year-old me thinks it looks AWESOME!
