Hunger Games: Mockingjay to Become Two Movies

Mockingjay book coverLionsgate has announced that Mockingjay, the third book in The Hunger Games, will become two movies. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 will release on November 21, 2014, and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 will debut on November 20, 2015.

I hope you’re all happy with yourselves.

You let Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King be broken into two movies (correction: This was rumored to happen, but didn’t as Jack pointed out.  In my rush to write this I messed up.), and then it happened with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and we’re currently witnessing with The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.  And somehow they found a way to do it with The Hobbit.  The movie studios are loving this, and you all keep falling for it.

You see, they know that for just a bit more money they can split the movies into two parts, and then they know the majority of you will go see both parts, essentially paying twice to see a complete story once.  Then they know a lot of you will buy the first part on DVD/Blu-ray to watch it again before you see part 2.  Well, after part 2 comes out you want to complete the story, so you buy that one on home video as well!

But, wait!  Wouldn’t it be nice to have them in one deluxe set with both halves of the story, and some extra material?  Better buy that as well!

OH SHOOT!  Now here comes the boxed set of all the movies together with even more extra content!  You better get that ordered as well!

… I hate each and everyone of you.  If you have fallen for this new idiotic method of getting even more money out of you at a theater, you deserve to spend all of your money like an idiot.  Instead of paying $11 to see the movie, you have now spent $22 in the theater alone to get the complete story.  And you keep falling for it time and time again.

I knew the second The Hunger Games had a huge opening weekend that this was going to happen.  The only thing that surprised me was they didn’t also do it to Catching Fire, the second book in the series.

All I ask is please wait to buy the home videos until the complete box set comes out in 2016.  We have to stop this madness somewhere, and isn’t The Hunger Games a good place as any?

You wrote: "You let Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King be broken into two movies"

Nope. Sure didn't. Peter Jackson didn't either. Return of the King was one movie, released in December 2003. Not clear where you got the idea it was broken into two–maybe because we're getting The Hobbit in two parts? Or because RotK is really damn long and has like seven successive endings? Anyway. Nope. You're just mistaken.

Yep, you\’re right. It was discussed, but they ended up not doing it.

… still hate it when they break films up.

  • Jack

    Sure, I get that.

Glad you pointed it out, though!

Hi, Sean. Sorry to post this here, but I know you read these comments; I also sent this message to your AOL account.

I received an email from your AOL account today that was broadcast to a lot of different people, had no subject, and the content was only one line–a link to something in Hungary (.hu). In short, it seemed very much NOT a Sean Aune communication, and I suspect that e-mail account has been hacked. I can forward the link to you, if you want, but my policy is generally not to forward anything that sets my amygdala a-jangling.

Sorry to be the bearer of unglad tidings. I only know that if my e-mail got hacked, I would appreciate a heads up about it.

        Keep care.

Just spotted this. Yeah, no clue what happened, and I don\’t even use that email any more, but the password has been changed. Sorry for the inconvenience!
