Prometheus 2 Coming in 2014 or 2015

Prometheus movie posterIt appears that we can dread the coming of Prometheus 2 in either 2014 or 2015.

It appears I was correct when I said in my Prometheus review:

This resulted in filmgoers being shortchanged and getting what felt like half a story with a lot of padding to make it feel like a whole.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox is in active development on a sequel to the Alien prequel … if that makes any sense.  Director Ridley Scott is involved in the development, and both Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace are already contracter to appear in a follow-up as the android David and Dr. Shaw respectively.

As anyone who saw the film knows, the door was left wide open for a follow-up, but seeing as the production cost $130 million and only brought in $302.8 million worldwide ($125.5 million domestic/$177.2 million foreign), and met with a lot of scorn from the public, it seemed unlikely that the story would be concluded.  For whatever reason, Fox is moving ahead on this, and seeing as we are deep into 2012, and 2014/2015 is the target, I would say its being fast tracked. Although Fox president of production Emma Watts said, “Ridley is incredibly excited about the movie, but we have to get it right. We can’t rush it.” Psst … Ms. Watts … 2014 sounds like rushing to me.

One possible blessing/curse is that it is unclear if Damon Lindelof of LOST fame will return to the scripting seat as he did not have an option for a sequel.

Who knows, maybe the sequel will clear up the numerous dangling plot points?
