Joss Whedon is saying that we may not be done with Agent Coulson just quite yet despite what happened in The Avengers.
If you’ve seen the summer blockbuster The Avengers, then you know that Agent Coulson, a staple of the Marvel movies, appeared to have met his maker. Well, it seems the new S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series will exist outside those films, and that could lead to more work for Clark Greggs. During the New York Comic Con this past weekend, Gregg made an appearance to promote his role on the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon, but then a video was shown featuring Joss Whedon and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige whom announced that Coulson would be a part of the TV series.
During the video Fiege said, “There was never going to be a S.H.I.E.L.D.‘ show without Agent Phil Coulson,” while Whedon added “He’s headlining the S.H.I.E.L.D. show and always was.”
Whedon has said the TV series is autonomous of the movies, but it could easily be this either pre-dates The Avengers, or Fury lied about Coulson dying to the assembled heroes. We’ll find out soon enough.
Coulson/Gregg have become fan favorites, so it’ll be good to se ehim still involved with the franchise in some way.
