The CW Grants Early Renewals to Arrow, Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries
Network upfront presentations aren’t for a few months yet, but The CW decided to go ahead and reward a couple of its series with early renewals.
The CW announced today that it is giving early 2013-2014 season orders to Arrow, Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries. The early pick ups are always a blessing for programs as it allows the writers to build the end of the season with the knowledge they will return in the fall to pick up the pieces they left. There is nothing worse than finding out after the season finale has been filmed that you aren’t coming back in the fall and you have no chance to wrap things up properly.
This will mark the ninth season for Supernatural, and a tenth already is looking to be in the cards. This pickup of The Vampire Diaries means it will be entering its fifth season. And as for Arrow, this will be a second season order for the series based on the DC Comics Green Arrow character.
The CW has struggled since its inception when UPN and the WB networks merged, so if a series is bringing in any thing close to decent ratings it is usually a safe bet it will be renewed.
