Michael Bay is out promoting Pain & Gain, and naturally questions are coming up about his next projects, Ninja Turtles and Transformers 4.
Last March a rumor circulated that Michael Bay’s upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie would see the heroes on the half shell become aliens as opposed to mutants. It’s only taken a year, but Bay has finally corrected this story while speaking with Moviefone recently.
There was that quote saying that we’re making [the Ninja Turtles as] aliens. We’re not. It’s the ooze! It’s from the original source material. These are from the original writers, and I never went out to correct myself in the press. I do listen to the fans and I do want this to be authentic. I think they’re going to be really happy with this movie. When I see the digital stuff, the turtles look great.
Excuse me for being a skeptic, but it took Bay a year to clear this up? Anyone else want to hazard a guess that perhaps he saw the public reaction to the idea and went, “oops?”
While continuing his interview, he also spoke to the plan to redesign the Transformers appearance in the upcoming Transformers 4.
You know there are a couple of historians of Transformers. I would do my designs of the robots and they’re like, “What if you just add a little bit more ears to Optimus?” But they’re really hands off. We’ve redesigned them in “Transformers 4,” and there’s some really cool sh*t in it. I’m literally redesigning every character, top to bottom. There’s a reason why they’re redesigned, but it’s also to keep it new and fresh to me. I think the fans will appreciate some of this new stuff we have in the movie and some of the new characters.
Well, I see he’s sticking to his guns about the redesign of the robots. As I’ve explained before, this is all about selling more toys. I really don’t care how he tries to dress this up, that is what the final reason is. Period.
No matter what, as usual with Bay, he is about to turn out two turkeys, and they will sadly still make money.
