It is doubtful that at any other time in the history of Marvel has Quicksilver been discussed as much as he has been recently. The level of one-upmanship going on between Bryan Singer on X-Men: Days of Future Past and Joss Whedon on The Avengers 2 is becoming laughable.
Since Whedon announced the inclusion of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver in The Avengers 2 earlier this year, Singer and Fox have been trying to show off how they can also use the latter character. As a matter of fact, six days after Whedon confirmed the inclusion of the siblings in his film, Singer announced his use of Quicksilver.
The two productions have now gone back and forth about the character with Whedon saying he doesn’t care if Singer uses him, and Singer keeps trying to goad Marvel. The latest shot came on July 4 when the director tweeted the image you see above with the following text.
House call. #Xmen #DaysOfFuturePast
It may not be obvious to those of you unfamiliar with all of the characters involved, but Maximoff is the last name in the comics of both Wanda and Pietro, the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver respectively.
I understand that both companies sit on the film rights to these characters, but this is just getting to the point of silly. This picture just reeks of, “Hey! Look at us! We used him first!” and t isn’t very becoming.
While you can say Whedon isn’t doing any of this because his film isn’t yet in production, he also isn’t going around asking to talk about the situation. Every time he has mentioned it it is because he’s been asked. Singer, on the other hand, I’m sorry to say, is just coming off as bratty.
