Get ready for yet another X-Men related movie as it appears Fox is gearing up for a film based on X-Force.
On Friday it was revealed that Fox had registered the domain name “X-ForceMovie.com” which sent blogs into a tizzy with speculation. The Hollywood Reporter learned later in the day that this is indeed in development with Jeff Wadlow – the writer and director of Kick-Ass 2 – being tapped to write the script and possibly direct.
X-Force is a spin-off team from the X-Men that has gone through several incarnations, but my guess is this will be based on the current darker and grittier version that features Wolverine and Warpath, a character that has been confirmed to appear in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Considering that Wadlow is coming off a violent action film, this version also makes a lot more sense for his style.
And hey, Hugh Jackman will get more work.
It appears that Fox is fully committing itself to the X-Men universe, and it still keeps Marvel from getting their hands back on the characters. So long as these films make anything resembling a profit, expect to keep seeing them just to keep them away from their original home.
No word on when X-Force would be aiming for a release.
