Gravity Hold on to the Top Spot at the Box Office

Apparently a drama set in space is the main film everyone is interested in seeing at this time.

Gravity held on to the top spot this weekend with a super impressive $44.2 million which represents a drop of only 20.7 percent from its opening weekend. It now stands at $123.4 million domestically off of a $100 million dollar budget. When will the sequel, Gravity 2: Back in Orbit! be announced? (I’m kidding… I hope.)

Captain Phillips starring Tom Hanks fame in second with a decent $26 million dollar opening. We’ll have to see how it holds on.

Coming in third was Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 with $14.2 million bringing its domestic total to $78 million, a tie with its budget.

Opening in a very disappointing fourth place was Machete Kills with an anemic $3.79 million. No word yet on its budget, but things are definitely not looking good.

Rounding out the top five was last week’s disappointing opening Runner Runner which came in with $3.7 million which brings its domestic total to $14.1 million off of a $30 million dollar budget.

Next weeks big openings include Carrie, Escape Plan and The Fifth Estate.

Curious how I think these new films will do? Check out my fourth quarter films of 2013 predictions.
