Will the Masters of the Universe reboot ever make it to the big screen? At this point, who knows.
When a film gets stuck in endless development cycles it is referred to as “Development Hell.” That seems to be where Masters of the Universe is at this moment.
Back in 2012 it seemed things were chugging along with G.I. Joe: Retaliation director Jon M. Chu at the helm. The bad news popped up in Feb. of this year when he finally stepped away as there was no movement on the project to speak of. It was then said that Jeff Wadlow, who just directed Kick-Ass 2, would pick up the reigns, but nothing has been said since.
Well, according to The Wrap, Wadlow is now attached, but in the role of screenwriter to retool the current script from Terry Rossio, the co-writer of the disastrous The Lone Ranger. Apparently Wadlow is not out of the running to direct, but there are some other names floating around as well such Mark Cahill from I Origins.
At this point, I’m going to be surprised if Sony ever gets this to the screen, and I don’t think that would be a horrible thing. This is not a film people are dying for, and there is no way it could be made cheaply. Perhaps it is just time to cut loses and let this property go back into the vaults.
