X-Men Apocalypse takes place in the 1980s, so it’s time for a whole new set of mutants.
We’ve known for some time that the next X-Men movie would take place in the 1980s, and that raised all sorts of questions about who would play some of the more prominent mutants in the film. As you saw at the end of X-Men: Days of Future Past, the timeline of these movies has been changed drastically, so it was somewhat of a soft reboot to the franchise. This is the perfect time to re-introduce some fan favorite mutants from the comics.
Director Bryan Singer, who spilled things on Twitter like a madman before the last film, has returned to his account to announce three new additions to the cast of X-Men: Apocalypse.
As members of the X-Men go, all three of these are staple characters, and it will be interesting to see them played as younger incarnations than we’ve seen before. Will they hint at the Cyclops/Jean Grey relationship? Will there be nods to the Phoenix Force? It could all be very interesting.
X-Men: Apocalypse is scheduled to hit theaters on May 27, 2016.
