Kevin Feige begins discussing Marvel Phase 3

2016 marks the start of Marvel Phase 3, and Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige is ready to start discussing it.

Speaking with Empire Magazine, Feige gave some quick snippets on what we can expect from several of the upcoming Marvel films and characters.

Guardian’s of the Galaxy Vol. 2:

There’ve been many different incarnations of the Guardians over the years in the comics and we’ll catch a glimpse of additions over the course of the movie.

Thanos:

I wouldn’t look too hard in [Guardians 2] for Thanos. The next time we see Thanos he will not be messing around. It will be, ‘Oh, that’s why they’ve been teasing this villain for five years!’

If Thanos is not in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, that makes me think he will probably show up in Thor: Ragnarok. Seeing as Avengers: Age of Ultron ended with Thor returning to Asgard over his concerns about four Infinity Stones appearing over the last several years, it seems to make sense.

Spider-Man:

It’s going to be as big and spectacular a Spider-Man film as has ever been made. But it’s a Peter Parker story and has more opportunity to be focused on the story of a 15-year-old kid going to high school.

Thor: Ragnarok

I don’t think people will read into that title alone [regarding] what the movie’s going to be. It’s going to be, perhaps, as totally different from the prior Thor movies as Winter Soldier was from the first Captain America. We want to take it to new places, we’ve got new characters that will show how big we’re swinging on this. And we have a Hulk… The film takes place within the cosmos primarily, which is to say, frankly, very little Earth.

Well, that seems to confirm the Hulk now, and it also would seem to lend itself to the Thanos theory.

Black Panther:

This one is so important. It’s a big geo-political action adventure that focuses on the family and royal struggle of T’Challa in Wakanda, and what it means to be king. T’Challa’s story is very important to us as it link to the next Avengers films, which is why we brought it forward.

This film, of all of them, will tie in the most to Infinity War? Interesting choice.

It sounds like Marvel Phase 3 is going to be a busy one. I’m in. (like that was ever in doubt.)
