Since the debut of Supergirl on CBS rumors have circulated about the possibility of the Flash making an appearance on the show. The big issue was that The Flash airs on The CW, while Supergirl is on CBS. Although both shows are based on Warner Brothers properties, and also share a production team in Berlanti Productions, the differing networks made it difficult. Clearly some deal was struck, as the crossover was officially announced on Wednesday.
Grant Gustin will bring his speedster character to National City to team-up with Supergirl on an episode to air on March 28. In a press release for the event, executive producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg said:
We are so incredibly excited to announce something that we have dreamed of happening since we starting making SUPERGIRL – THE FLASH and SUPERGIRL are teaming up! We want to thank Grant Gustin for making the time to come visit (on top of his already immense workload) and all of the folks at CBS, The CW, Warner Bros. and DC for working this out. And finally, thanks to the fans and journalists who have kept asking for this to happen. It is our pleasure and hope to create an episode worthy of everyone’s enthusiasm and support.
No word as of yet as to what could be causing the Scarlet Speedster to make the trip, but you would have to assume it has to be something big.
Sadly you shouldn’t expect this to become a regular occurrence. While Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow film in Vancouver, Supergirl films in Los Angeles which adds another layer of logistical issues. This will more than likely be a rare event for any of the actors to show up on each other’s shows.
