Turtles win its opening weekend at the box office

It would seem that the world was not ready for a second helping of the new TMNT.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows scored an underwhelming opening weekend with $35.3M, a 46 percent drop from the first film. Combined with its foreign take it stands at $69.25M off of a $135M budget.

X-Men Apocalypse took second this weekend with a 66.1 percent drop to take in $22.32M. While it isn’t doing great domestically – $116.49M so far – globally it stands at $402.51M off of a $178M budget.

Third place went to Emilia Clarke’s romance, Me Before You with $18.27M off of a $20M budget.

Alice Through the Looking Glass took in $10.69M in its second weekend, a drop of 60.2 percent, to land in fourth place. Globally it now stands at $176.27M off of a $170M budget.

The Angry Birds Movie landed in fifth place with $9.77M and a new global total of $283.47M off of a $73M budget.

Next weekend’s big releases are The Conjuring 2, Now You See Me 2 and Warcraft.
