Paramount has high hopes for Star Trek Beyond, proven by the fact the studio has already announced plans to move ahead with a fourth film in the series.
Remember the opening of the 2009 Star Trek film that showed Kirk’s father dying on the U.S.S. Kelvin and setting up an alternate timeline? You better as the next film in the series will see Chris Hemsworth return as George Kirk and work alongside his son James (Chris Pine). The official logline reads:
In the next installment of the epic space adventure, Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk will cross paths with a man he never had a chance to meet, but whose legacy has haunted him since the day he was born: his father.
Sounds like Paramount wants to get on this quickly, but no release date has been announced as of yet.
Ever since the 2009 film this has been referred to as the “Kelvin timeline,” and it sounds like the fourth film will bring things full circle.
The entire cast is expected to return, but no word yet as to what Paramount plans to do about the passing of Anton Yelchin who played Chekov.
Star Trek Beyond hits theaters on July 22.
