It appears we may have seen the last of Dr. Jane Foster in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
It seems that Natalie Portman isn’t going to be coming back to the Marvel films any time soon. Speaking with the Wall Street Journal she said, “As far as I know I’m done.” She went on to add, “I don’t know if maybe one day they’ll ask for Avengers 7 or whatever. I have no idea.”
Marvel had announced that Portman would not appear in Thor: Ragnarok as so little of it takes place on Earth, and that had already hinted we might not see any more of Portman.
Quite honestly, I won’t miss her. She sleepwalked through her performance in Thor: The Dark World to the point of being distracting. It was well known that she was unhappy when director Patty Jenkins left the project over ‘creative differences,’ and it showed in her performance.
While Jane Foster has served an important role in the original Thor comic mythos, in the movies I just don’t think she works. It’s time to move on.
Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on Nov. 3, 2017.
