Deathstroke looks set to join the DC film universe

It looks as though Deathstroke will be joining the DC Extended Universe, the only question is where exactly it will happen.

On Monday Ben Affleck – Batman himself – tweeted out a short video that shows someone wearing a Deathstroke costume descending a ramp of some type. The video reeks to me of a costume test, meaning this is simply a sample video to see how the costume looks in the setting, but there may be more to it.

Speculation popped up immediately that this may be a test for Affleck’s solo film, while others think it has something to do with Justice League as it is currently filming. However, not long after the video appeared, The Wrap reported that Deathstroke would actually be the main villain of the Batman film.

The majority of the public will be most familiar with Deathstroke, also known as Slade Wilson, from the story arc on the Arrow series. that, however, was not the classic origin, so I wouldn’t take too much from that as to what we would see in a movie.

If true, this seems like a superbly odd decision. Batman has one of the most iconic rogues gallery of villains ever, and you choose… Deathstroke? Yes, Batman and Deathstoke have fought, but he is certainly not the first villain that pops into your head when you think of Batman. Even if you skip over the Joker there’s Ra’s al Ghul, Two-Face, the Penguin, Poison Ivy, Catwoman, Man-Bat, the Riddler, the Mad Hatter and even Deadshot which has already been introduced into the Extended Universe.

It is possible Deathstroke could be working for someone else in the film as he is an assassin and mercenary, so he could be the hired muscle for an unseen force. We’ll surely learn more down the road as the character has now been teased, the only question is when that will be.
