ABC developing New Warriors comedy series

ABC seems to be going back to the Marvel well for a new comedy series based on the super hero team The New Warriors.

According to a report from TV Line, ABC is in development on a New Warriors comedy series that would focus heavily on fan favorite character Squirrel Girl. Yes, she talks to squirrels, but she also has super strength and speed.

To add to the oddness of the character, she went on to be the nanny to the daughter of Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, so there would be a nice Netflix crossover!

The New Warriors is a team made up of teenage heroes, and the roster has rotated over the years. Oddly enough in the comic universe they were the cause of the Civil War storyline when they were filming a reality show and they messed up taking down a team of villains leading to the deaths of hundreds of people in a small town including a grade school. So to comic readers, comedy isn’t the first thing we think of when we see the New Warriors.

No word on where in the development cycle this series is, or what team lineup they are looking at outside of Squirrel Girl, but expect to hear more about this over the coming months.
