Dynasty reboot being lined up at The CW

Dynasty is being setup for a reboot over at The CW… the 80s are back, folks.

Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, the creators of Gossip Girl, is developing a reboot of the 1980s mainstay, Dynasty. The series ran from 1981 to 1989 and followed the feud between insanely rich families the Carringtons and the Colbys.

In the original series, Fallon Carrington resented her father Blake marrying his former secretary, Krystal. In the new series Krystal will become Cristal and will be Hispanic in an effort to diversify the story more. The big question is if Alexis – played by Joan Collins in the original – will be featured from the outset as that was the character that really propelled the series into a ratings hit.

The CW seems to be focusing heavily on 80s reboots for its pilot season as it is also working on a remake of The Lost Boys. With MacGyver on CBS this season it’s like my early teen years are coming back to life… and I’m not thrilled about it.

And how do you do Dynasty without giant shoulder pads?
