Fantastic Beasts casts a spell over the box office

The latest entry in the Wizarding World scored a win at the box office.

Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, the first in a new series of movies set in the world of Harry Potter, won the weekend with $75M off of its budget of $180M. With its foreign numbers it sits at $218.3M globally.

Doctor Strange came in second this weekend with $17.67M which brings its domestic total to $181.54M and globally to $571.54M off of a $165M budget.

Third place went to Trolls with $17.5M. It now stands at $116.21M domestic and $261.34M global off of a $125M budget.

Arrival fell to fourth place in its second weekend with $11.8M and now sits at $43.37M domestic and $54.21M global off of its $47M budget.

Rounding out the top five was Almost Christmas which took in $7M for a new domestic total of $25.42M off of a $17M budget.

Next week’s big releases are Allied, Bad Santa 2, Moana and Rules Don’t Apply.
