Escape From New York receiving a prequel

The Escape From New York movie being set up at Fox appears to be a prequel and not a remake as we first heard about years ago.

Since 2010 a remake of the 1981 classic Escape From New York has been moving around Hollywood. In early 2015 it landed at Fox, but not much has been heard about it since. Finally there is some movement to report, and it is not a remake at all.

According to The Wrap Neal Cross, creator of the BBC crime series Luther, beat out several other writers to win the job, and he is taking a very different, earlier take on the character of Snake Plissken. Hit the link below to read all the details because if they are correct they are pretty spoilerific. It includes things such as the villain, Snake’s real name, the state of New York City in this prequel and so on.

Apparently this is being looked at in a similar light to the current Planet of the Apes films where everyone knows where the story is headed, but there is no set deadline to when we will reach it. In other words, this could be a whole new series of Plissken films which is far more interesting I feel than a remake.

No word on when we may see the film, or who will be playing Snake at this point, but at least there seems to be movement finally.
