Is there still a chance for a solo Black Widow film? It seems the answer is still ‘maybe.’
Scarlett Johansson’s portrayal of Black Widow has become a fan favorite, but there has been very little movement on her getting her own film. Speaking with Total Film, Johansson has addressed the status of the project, and if there even actually is a project.
I’ve talked to Kevin Feige about it. We’re creatively really compatible. I think we both agree that the character is right for a standalone, it’s just a case of timing at this point for both Marvel and myself. Marvel has a really huge roster. They’re looking four years ahead.
I also have a lot of things that I want to do. If I did it, I would dedicate myself completely to making it amazing. It would have to be the best version that movie could possibly be. Otherwise, I would never do it.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve really enjoyed what Johansson has done with the character, but there is so much done about her at this point, I’m not really sure it’s needed at this point. It would need to be a Black Widow film in name, but the lines have become very blurred with no one really being a solo film. Civil War was technically a Captain America movie, but the Avengers all marched through it. You could do similar with Widow, but would it really be a solo film at this point?
Believe me, I would still watch this in a heartbeat, but I think the ship has sailed at this point for this project.
