The Batman has a new director while we also learn that a Nightwing film is in the works.
Warner Brothers is going all in on the Batman universe it seems. Following the announcement Ben Affleck was stepping down as director of The Batman the hunt was on for a new helmer. Matt Reeves (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) was rumored… then not rumored… and now confirmed.
Reeves said of the news, “I have loved the Batman story since I was a child. He is such an iconic and compelling character, and one that resonates with me deeply. I am incredibly honored and excited to be working with Warner Bros. to bring an epic and emotional new take on the Caped Crusader to the big screen.”
Meanwhile, rumors are circulating that Chris McKay is circling a live-action version of Nightwing following his recent success on The LEGO Batman Movie. For those unfamiliar with the character, after feeling he had outgrown his role as the original Robin, Dick Grayson set out on his own crime fighting career in a new costume and name known as Nightwing.
It has been established a Robin has died in the DC Extended Universe, but it is unknown which one. In the comics it was the second boy wonder, Jason Todd. If the films follow this thought process, it would make sense that Dick was up to his Nightwing persona by now.
No word as of yet as to when a Nightwing film will happen.
