The latest trailer for Transformers: The Last Knight may be the worst trailer ever for a big budget film.
I have no issues with a female protagonist in a film. I actually enjoy it and love many films where females are the strongest character.
But when said character breaks the fourth wall in a trailer to just tell you how strong she is?
No. Just… no. Stop it.
Oh, and in a movie about giant robots we’re promoting the child female star? How does this make sense?
Silly me… I forgot Michael Bay is involved.
This is the fifth Transformers film, and still Bay can’t seem to grasp the idea that we want the Autobots and Decepticons to be the main focus. He has to shove more and more humans into these films for some bizarre reason. Yes, they have all made money, but you have to wonder just how much they could make if he embraced the rich legacy of the brand and embraced the characters that are the namesake of the series.
At this point I have given up. Bay has a formula, he’s going to stick with it and it just is what it is. Hopefully when the inevitable reboot happens someone will realize what they’ve been missing out on.
Transformers: The Last Knight hits theaters on June 23.
