I don't plan to tweet each of these, but as I RTed the calls to find her I felt I should update. Condolences to her… twitter.com/i/web/status/8…
According to The Tracking Board, a Princess team-up film is being shopped to all the studios right now.
Producer David Boxerbaum and literary manager Jake Wagner are currently shopping a spec script around by Nir Paniry that sees various Princesses team-up in an Avengers-style adventure. It isn’t known which Princesses are currently in the script, but it is assumed it is all ones that are in the public domain at this point.
Apparently enough talk has happened that Disney Pictures already has a director in mind in Joachim Ronning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales). Should the House of Mouse pick up the project it would have access to all of its Disney Princesses which is far more extensive than any other studio would have.
Here’s a couple questions, however. Are we to believe Disney hasn’t already considered this possibility? Why would they need to buy someone else’s take on it? Secondly, do we even need this? Hasn’t this already essentially happened on Once Upon a Time? What will make this special?
If anyone other than Disney does this it feels like it would be in the same vein as Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies or Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters. These alternate takes on literary and historical figures have not done well. Sprinkle the Disney magic on it and you’re looking at a box office hit no matter how much we don’t need it.
We’ll see if this film ever materializes.
