For those keeping track, this makes the third director change? twitter.com/TheWrap/status…
Amazon has decided to move forward with Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and it went straight to two seasons.
The way Amazon picks up series is a bit nerve wracking. While it’s awesome it gives each show a ‘pilot season,’ it makes it nerve wracking if you watch one of them and really like it if it will be picked up. With a new series from Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, I knew I would have to check it out, I just hoped I would like it.
I freaking loved it.
I watched the pilot for Marvelous Mrs. Maisel twice in 12 hours I was so impressed it. It was Palladino’s strongest pilot by a mile, and it was just a good pilot period.
Pilot episodes can be a tricky beast because you have to set everything up for a series and make sure you hook viewers. As the episode closed I was more than ready to move on to a second episode, but then came the waiting for Amazon to pick up the series.
For the first time in Amazon’s pilot history it ordered two seasons immediately. There’s no word as of yet how many episodes we’ll see each season, but my guess would be 10, so we’re probably looking at 20 total.
There’s also no word on when the first batch of episodes will drop, but I will be eagerly awaiting them.
If you haven’t tried the show yet, I can’t recommend it enough. I will warn you, there is some brief nudity, but… I don’t want to give it away, but it is some of the most natural feeling nudity I think I have ever seen in anything. It happens, there’s a reason and it’s earned.
But ignore that, you need to see this pilot. You won’t regret it… and then count the days with me to the new episodes.
