Dom and the crew did well, but lets not get too excited just yet.
A lot is being made that Fate of the Furious taking in $532M globally this weekend, but only $100M of that came from the U.S. For comparison, Furious 7 took in $147M in its opening weekend. It’s not horrible by any means, but it definitely shows this is a global franchise. China took in $190M alone. This film looks locked to beak a billion without much of a sweat.
The Boss Baby took in $15.54M in its third weekend for a domestic total of $116.32M. Combined with the foreign haul it now sits at $238.88M globally off of a $125M budget.
Beauty and the Beast landed in third with $13.63M for a new domestic total of $454.64M and sits at $1.043B globally off of a $160M budget.
Smurfs: The Lost Village fell 50.8 percent to land in fourth place with $6.5M and globally sits at $66.82M off of a $60M budget.
Fifth place went to Going in Style with $6.35M for a new global total of $35M off of a $25M budget.
This week will see Free Fire, Born in China, Phoenix Forgotten, The Promise and Unforgettable.
