Due to a family tragedy, Zack Snyder has stepped down from finishing Justice League.
Zack Snyder announced on Monday that he will be stepping down from finishing Justice League due to the untimely death of his daughter Autumn in March. “In my mind, I thought it was a cathartic thing to go back to work, to just bury myself and see if that was way through it,” Snyder told Hollywood Reporter . “The demands of this job are pretty intense. It is all consuming. And in the last two months I’ve come to the realization …I’ve decided to take a step back from the movie to be with my family, be with my kids, who really need me. They are all having a hard time. I’m having a hard time.”
In the wake of his departure, Warner Brothers have brought in Joss Whedon to finish the film and handle the planned shooting of additional scenes. Whedon directed both Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron, so he is used to handling films of this size.
I have been very critical of Snyder’s films, but it is at times like this that you are reminded these are human beings behind these films. My heart goes out to the Snyder family at this horrible time. And kudos to Warner Brothers that did offer to delay the release of Justice League to accommodate the family.
