James Gunn now running the Marvel Cosmic Universe

Apparently, after you’ve had two hit films you get a promotion at Marvel.

Speaking with IGN recently, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn revealed that it looks like he has a long future with Marvel. Following the conclusion of Avengers 4, Gunn will be on to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and running the entire cosmic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

We talk about it all the time. It’s already a part of what I’m doing with Marvel and the conversations that Kevin and I have every day. When we’re talking about ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 3,’ and that story, that’s a story that will lead to other stories. It’s innate to the DNA that that’s the end of a trilogy but it’s the beginning of a whole other element of the Marvel Cosmic universe. That’s a part of what I’m doing now.

Gunn has previously stated that the third film will end the story of the current Guardians, so that should free him up to take care of the other cosmic beings running around the MCU. Trust me, there are tons of them. You haven’t met the Skrulls yet, and once you do… it could get super interesting. The Kree/Skrull war runs deep and impacts every facet of Marvel. My gut tells me this is where we’re going next.

Get ready, folks. Marvel is far from done with us.
