War for the Planet of the Apes explores a new character

In the lead up to War for the Planet of the Apes, a big mystery has arisen surrounding a little girl seen in the trailers, and now we know a bit more.

Potential spoilers, folks.

So, now we know this is the new version of Nova. For those unfamiliar with their Planet of the Apes lore, Nova was portrayed by Linda Harrison in the original 1968 film and was the female that teamed up with Charlton Heston’s Taylor.

Throwing a Nova into this series of films presents us with a ton of questions. Is this supposed to be the same Nova meaning the Taylor event is happening far sooner than expected? Is this another Nova? Was the original Nova named after her?

My guess is this is not the same Nova because that time period very clearly showed all humans were mute and they were treated as the slaves of the apes. So I think this is merely a nod to that character.

I know I can’t wait to find out more.

War for the Planet of the Apes hits theaters on July 14.
