X-Men: Dark Phoenix cast set with a major new player

X-Men: Dark Phoenix became a lot more real on Wednesday as the cast, director and release date were announced.

Deadline revealed that Simon Kinberg will be directing X-Men: Dark Phoenix which now has a release date of Nov. 2, 2018. Filming is expected to begin by the end of the month with a lot of the X-Men: Apocalypse cast returning. Announced so far:

This list is a bit surprising as Lawrence, Fassbender and McAvoy were only contracted for three films. Each said they wouldn’t return unless all three did, so one can only imagine how much the studio had to pay to get them together again.

Not on this list as she is still in negotiations is Jessica Chastain who is reportedly in talks to play Shi’ar Empress Lilandra. Anyone who knows the Dark Phoenix Saga from the comics has to be wondering how they plan to turn Jean into Dark Phoenix as well as introduce the Shi’ar all in one film. Yes, we started to see some of the Phoenix Force in the last film, but Jean was nowhere near going Dark Phoenix yet.

This really should have been a trilogy as opposed to cramming it all in this fast. This is one of the greatest story arcs in comic history, it deserves to be treated as such.

Oh, Fox. You just keep doing you and holding on to those X-Men rights forever.
