Are you ready for three new Batman films? You may want to prepare yourself.
Matt Reeves is out doing press for War for the Planet of the Apes, and of course, The Batman is coming up. With him being attached to direct the first Ben Affleck solo Batman film, people are already wondering where this might go. Speaking with Fandango, Reeves is already hinting there may be more than one film on its way.
I have ideas about an arc, but really, the important thing is just to start… you have to start with one. You know, you have to start with a story that begins something.
And when Mark and I began [Dawn of the Planet of the Apes], we knew what our goals were, but we didn’t know how we were gonna get there, and I would say that that more relates to the way that I see a Batman story, is a kind of ambition for a series of stories, but really the most important thing is gonna be to tell a vital first story
I enjoy Reeves work, and I’m also thrilled he keeps discussing the tone of The Batman being a noir detective story. The detective aspect of Batman has been missing from his previous movies and is something I have dearly missed. He is supposed to be the best detective in the world, but all the movies ever want to show is him using his gadgets. Let him actually work for that big ending fight instead of it always being handed to him via the stupidity of the villains.
Fingers crossed this works out as it sounds like Reeves has his head on straight when it comes to this character.
