Blade Runner 2049 released a new trailer on Monday, and as much as I want to get excited for this movie, I’m finding it rough.
I think Denis Villeneuve (Sicario, Arrival) is one of the most exciting directors currently working. His films are amazing, and visually Blade Runner 2049 certainly feels like it belongs to the same world as the original, but I’m just not convinced this is a follow-up we need.
The original Blade Runner was important film for sci-fi, but I just don’t see how you follow it up in any meaningful way. What can it possibly say that will have anywhere near the same impact?
This is a film that I just can’t buy off of trailers. I will need to know a lot more before I even think about seeing it. For now I’ll just stick to the original.
Blade Runner 2049 hits theaters on Oct. 6.
